6 Stunning Pieces of Maze Art showing Cleveland, Ohio

If you are familiar with this site you know you get a new piece of maze art every week. Initially, these mazes were of signs or landmarks around the US, but more recently I have added many more international destinations (6 amazing Mexican Mazes). As I walk around and take in my surroundings I sometimes see things and think - I should make a maze of that. So I take a picture and make a maze out of it. If it is good you will eventually see it on the site ! I have happened to live in Cleveland, Ohio for much of the last few years so it is the topic of a lot of my mazes. Today I pull together my best maze art from Cleveland, Ohio. All mazes are available for download by clicking the link in the header.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum Maze

One of my most popular mazes, and the winner of maze of the year in 2022. Like most mazes this looks best printed large. I made it in two colors, and it was made from a photograph I took of the museum. If you ever are in Cleveland to visit, this should be one of your stops.

Playhouse Square Sign Maze

Most people do not know that the theatre district in Cleveland is the 2nd largest in the country after Broadway in NYC. I lived a block from this sign and could see it from my window so it made a natural subject matter for a maze.

The Free Stamp Maze

A quick walk from the Rock Museum located in a downtown park. This stamp has a nice story you can read about here. The Stamp is made of aluminum and steel and weighs 70,000 pounds !

Peter B Lewis Building Maze

Located on the campus of Case Western Reserve University, this style of architecture of this should remind you of many buildings because it was designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry. The Peter B Lewis building houses the Weatherhead School of Management, and it opened in 2002. This is just one side of the building - but it is quirky from most angles !

The Agora Sign Maze

One of my first sign mazes. I love this sign. If you live around Cleveland chances are you have seen a concert or comedy show here at some point.

Severance Hall Maze

The Cleveland Orchestra is one of the best in the world. This is where they make their home. A different style than my other mazes and one that I revised after an initial rendering.

BONUS: Pro Football Hall of Fame Museum Maze in Canton, Ohio

Located down route 77, this museum is the center of the football world every August when the induction ceremony takes place and the first preseason game of the season happens. Everyone should visit at some point who is a fan of football. The maze is more difficult than most other ones on the site.

I hope you enjoy these Cleveland mazes. I’m sure I will make more in the future !

Maze of the Week #100 - Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán

I am very excited to present Maze of the Week #100 ! This maze took me a long time to complete. I started it on March 15 and completed it on September 10. I took a break from it for a few months while I worked on other projects (and over 30 different other mazes). In the end I finished the maze and hope you enjoy the result. Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán is located in Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico. This church was a 10 minute walk from where I lived in the Winter and I visited it often. I have over 50 pictures on my camera of the church to prove this !

The groundbreaking of this church began in 1572 and was completed in 1724. You can read about the history here. The architecture of the church is amazing and it is worth a visit if you are in the area. This is my 4th maze from Oaxaca, and 2nd church (the other church is only 1 block away !):

YouTube: While there are videos showing just the church, since I lived in the city, I wanted to include a longer form video about the entire city.

The Maze: Mostly black and white with a bit of color where I felt it would help define the shape. This is a very large scale maze and the bigger the better. I designed it at 35 x 73 inches, so a 3x6 foot poster is how it is meant to be viewed and printed.

And after a month I went back and made a color version ! I love how it turned it

Maze of the Week #99 - Berlin Planetarium

Maze of the Week #99 takes us to the capital of Germany, with a maze of the Berlin Planetarium, and specifically the Zeiss-Großplanetarium (Zeiss Grand Planetarium). This maze has a lot of similarities to my maze of Spaceship Earth at Epcot Center. I visited Berlin and really enjoyed the city a lot but am upset that I did not visit this planetarium.

YouTube: In German, but at 10 second mark you get a good look at the building !

The Maze: Black and white. Draw and cut construction. I considered hiding a message in the solution…but did not ?

Maze of the Week #98 - Elm Road Drive In Theatre Sign

Maze of the Week #98 takes us back to a familiar theme on the site, retro sign mazes ! The Elm Road Drive In Theatre Sign is a wonderful retro sign for a still operating drive-in movie theatre located in Warren, Ohio. You can see what is playing here. You’ll notice the website prominently features the wonderful sign ! They still have a movieline !

YouTube: Although it discusses covid challenges, I like that this short video shows the sign prominently !

The Maze: I went black and white and stopped despite such great colors on the actual sign. The textures from the physical sign look great as a maze. And of course I had to give a nod to some great maze movies !
