Making Mazes - 5 years later - a comparison - Part 3

Welcome to Part 3 of 3 where I compare mazes I made a few years ago to mazes of the same subject today. The full introduction is written in Part 1.

Making Mazes - 5 years later - a comparison - Part 1

Making Mazes - 5 years later - a comparison - Part 2

Let’s compare 5 more mazes and see how much better the newest mazes are.

Part 3 Holiday Mazes then and now.

Reindeer Maze

The initial maze is from December 2018 and was one of the first mazes on the site. The new maze is from 2023 and is comic book style with free drawn pathways. The 2018 version was for kids, but looking back the maze portion seems a bit too involved for most kids.

Groundhog Maze

The initial maze was made in 2019 and has the same problem as my first example. The illustration is for kids, but the maze is hard enough for adults.

2024 is comic book style and a much better illustration !

Krampus Maze

2019 vs December 2023. I liked the original Krampus maze when I made it even though I remember rushing to make it. Now it looks terrible. It was a standard construction kids maze vs the new free drawn. While it is not for kids it is not a difficult maze to solve.

Pumpkin Maze

I don’t mind the 2019 pumpkin maze for all ages. It still has an audience every October for Halloween. The 2023 version has more character !

Santa Maze

2019 vs 2023. The first is easy for kids. The second is much harder and gives Santa a bit more personality !

So as I continue going through my maze archive…expect to see more of this type of content - comparing the old to the new. Hopefully, I can replace some old mazes that were poorly done with new and improved versions ! Happy Mazing !

This is Part 2 of 3….The full introduction is written in Part 1 if you are interested.

Let’s compare 5 more mazes and see how much better the newest mazes are.

Part 2 Mazes then and now.

Butterfly Maze

The initial maze is from October 2019 and was a standard construction. The new maze is from 2024 and is comic book style with free drawn pathways that more naturally match the shape of the butterfly. I think this really illustrates how much better I am at making mazes and illustrations !

Dinosaur Maze

The initial maze was made in 2019 and was very popular (it still gets a few hits on it even today). It is a standard construction kids maze.

2024 is comic book style, free drawn pathways, much harder difficulty and is so much better !

Dolphin Maze

April 2019 vs. 2024. Compared to many of the mazes I made in 2019 this isn’t so bad. I do want to fix it so you see water and the sky separated and some waves/splash…but instead you get a 2024 comic book style maze.

Bee Maze

The 2019 version was made for kids. Very easy. Cartoony. 2024 is not for kids.

Rhino Maze

2019 vs 2023. For what it is and the target audience the 2019 version is fine.

I hope you are enjoying this 3 part series. My final entry will feature Holiday themed mazes then and now !

Happy Mazing !

Making Mazes - 5 years later - a comparison - Part 1

When I started this website it focused on daily mazes. Each day for 3+ years during 2019-2021 I made a new maze for the home page, themed based on the date. Lots of celebration mazes for weird holidays. I also needed to make mazes quickly, so typically I would make 2-3 mazes a day. In 2022 I started making 1 maze a week. This allowed me to make more impressive mazes with more details. Here are some blog posts that pull themes together:

I have also gotten better at using Inkscape, my preferred maze making tool. I was in the archive and noticed the difference in quality between similar mazes from a few years ago to today. Let’s compare a few and see how much better the newest mazes are. 2024 happens to be comic book style mazes…so you’ll see a lot of that.

I have re-made so many mazes that this will be a 3 part series !

Part 1 Animal Mazes then and now.

Bunny Maze

The initial maze is from September 28, 2019. It was made for kids to celebrate International Rabbit Day. The new maze is from 2024 and is comic book style to celebrate Easter.

Chicken Maze

The initial maze was made in 2020 for a section of the website on animal mazes for kids.

2024 is comic book style and celebrates World Farm Animals Day.

Cow Maze

Again we have a kids maze for the animal maze section from 2020 against a comic book style cow from 2024. Each has 2 versions.

Mule Maze

October 26, 2019 was National Mule Day. I really like the maze I made back then mostly because of the snout coloring ! And a 2024 comic book version.

Tiger Maze

My tiger maze from July 2019 is terrible. I hated it when I made it. I hate it even more now. But I need to own it. And the 2024 comic book style replacement.

So a few years later things have gotten much better! I hope you agree. In Part 2 I will be looking at some non-animal mazes vs 2024.
