standard maze
A typical maze based off of a grid framework where the maze walls are significantly smaller than the maze pathways
standard equal maze
A Standard Maze where the walls and pathways have equal width
grid maze
A maze that uses a grid for the walls
horizontal maze
A maze whose main walls are drawn on a horizontal plane
arrow maze
A maze where you travel in the direction of the arrow you are on with directional choices along the way.
cut thru maze
A maze where the path cuts thru an object/subject. To solve you travel on the pathway. When creating you draw the pathways vs. normally drawing the walls.
axonometric maze
A maze made using an axonometric grid, typically used to give an object dimension
connected dots maze
A Maze made by connecting dots to make walls.
line leads maze
A Maze with many line choices but only one that reaches the goal
hidden message maze
A maze where the drawing of the solution creates a hidden message for the solver
spiral maze
A maze that uses spiral paths for the majority of the maze
objects maze
A maze where the walls are made of objects instead of lines
block move maze
A maze where the goal is to create a path from start to goal by shifting a certain number of blocks in a grid
vertical maze
A maze whose main walls are drawn on a vertical plane
escape maze
A maze where the goal is to escape from inside the maze through the outside wall
draw and cut maze
A maze where the pathways are created by taking a drawing of something and cutting thru them to create the maze
depth maze
A maze that uses layers to give the maze a dimensional look
find items maze
A maze where you need find items, sometimes in order, before you can exit the maze.
dual entrance / exit maze
A maze where there is a defined start and finish but you are encouraged to choose the direction you travel in so that the start and finish are interchangeable.
object as goal maze
A maze where the goal is to reach a particular object, not necessarily to exit the maze.
warp zone maze
A maze where you can jump from one area to another using “warps”.
mixed section maze
A maze that includes a variety of maze constructions usually to enhance the picture
pipes maze
A maze where the pathways are represented by pipes, allowing the paths to weave over and under each other !
directional maze
A maze where you can only turn in the direction the maze maker states to solve the maze. In the example to the left solve the maze by only making left turns.
kids maze
A maze designed to be solved by kids. It should be easy with short dead ends.
free drawn maze
A maze drawn free hand without the use of a grid.
pattern maze
A maze that is made from a common textile pattern, like the argyle example to the left
3d maze
A maze drawn to look as if it is 3 dimensional.

A maze where the paths weave above and below one another

A maze that uses numbers and rules regarding them to advance from start to goal in a maze
puzzle maze
A maze where movement is determined by solving a puzzle or using a key
color grid maze
A maze where movement is determined by conditionally moving between colors
go & return maze
A Maze where the object is to reach a goal in a maze, then return back to the start via a new path
conditional path maze
A maze where movement is dictated by following rules that determine which paths may be taken in what order. Often dictated by a series of colors.
letter maze
A maze where movement is determined by using certain letters to move forward and solve the maze
avoid items maze
A maze where a rule includes avoiding items placed in the pathways, essentially making them dead ends.
slide arrow maze
An Arrow maze where landing on the arrow allows you to move to ANY arrow in the direction it is point in (not just one space like an Arrow Maze)
hidden message trail maze
A Hidden message maze where you build words and sentences by moving thru the paths from start to goal
unsolvable maze
A maze with no solution. A bit evil IMO.

A maze that requires some mathematical problem solving to solve

racing maze
A maze to be completed by more than one person at the same time, each working to solve the maze in the fastest time possible
pod maze
A maze consisting of pods, or disjointed sections that must be moved between in order to solve the maze
MOBILE maze
A maze that can be of many types, but is designed specifically for solving on a mobile device.
